Adverts cause friction between two Shannonside MEPs

Sinn Fein MEP Matt Carthy has slammed newspaper ads taken by his MEP colleague Luke “Ming” Flanagan as “cynical, disingenuous, embarrassing and insulting”.

The Independent MEP had taken out the ads under the headline “what’s Ming been up to for the last five years”.

They were accompanied by bar charts showing his attendance at the EU agriculture committee meetings compared with his constituency colleagues.

Matt Carthy, who also has strong Roscommon connections, says he doesn’t have to attack anyone else to prove his work ethic at EU level, and he has taken the ads as a huge insult…
