Up to 2,500 submissions made on waste transfer application in Ballinasloe

Almost two and a half thousand submissions have been lodged with Galway council against a proposal to establish a waste transfer facility in Ballinasloe.

A proposal by Barna recycling was first put forward over a year ago but a decision by Galway council to grant permission for it was overturned in the High Court last November on environmental grounds.

The company decided to submit another application for the project earlier this year and a public meeting in August held to discuss concerns was attended by over 200 people.

Councillor Aisling Dolan says she’s very happy with the amount of submissions that people have made this time out and she says it represents about 1 in 3 families in the town.
