200 people object to Ballinasloe waste-transfer facility

Galway County Council has received over 200 submissions opposing the granting of a waste permit for a controversial project in Ballinasloe.

The waste-transfer facility has already been granted planning permission by the local authority, but requires a special permit before it can begin operation.

There is considerable local opposition to the project, with efforts last week to have the planning permission revoked by councillors under an old law ruled out of order by the local authority’s senior management.

A total of 207 submissions have been received by the council objecting to the permit application by Barna Waste, which it’s understood will take at least a month to process before a decision can be made.
