Unions sceptical ahead of meeting with Bord na Mona management today over Longford job losses

Unions will meet Bord na Móna today to discuss major job-losses in the midlands.

It’s laying off 148 staff after the ESB shut a power plant at Lanesboro, Co. Longford, last weekend.

78 seasonal staff have been laid off with immediate effect, with a further permanent 70 employees to be laid off from next Thursday.

Siptu’s Willie Noone says he’ll be looking for answers from Bord na Móna today.

Environment Minister Richard Bruton has told the Dáil he expects the facility to re-open within 12 weeks – once environmental issues are sorted.

But Siptu’s Willie Noone fears that won’t be the case.
