The Cathaoirleach of Longford County Council is hoping for an urgent meeting with management at Bord na Mona and ESB to discuss the recent lay-offs.
Councillor Micheal Carrigy and the chief executive of the council Paddy Mahon are expecting to have talks this week.
The company announced last Thursday that 150 full and part time workers were being put on indefinite unpaid leave.
Following talk with the unions on Friday the company agreed to suspend the lay off of the permanent worker. The two sides are meeting again over the next few days. Unions say they will be fighting to get both permanent and seasonal workers their rights.
Cllr Carrigy says it’s still an extremely serious situation for south Longford and has to be addressed immediately.
