A Shannonside union representative has said hospital staff set to strike later this week won’t be providing any cover.
Ten thousand support workers including catering and household staff have served notice of a 24-hour strike on Thursday which will affect all hospitals in this region.
SIPTU’s Sandra Flanagan confirmed the strike committee at Sligo University Hospital are meeting today to finalise their plans for the stoppage.
The union is set to hold last ditch talks at the Workplace Relations Commission in a bid to avert the stoppage.
But Sandra, who is Industrial Organiser for the Health Division in Sligo/Leitrim, says that unless there’s a breakthrough the strike is going ahead with no contingency plans in place leaving it up to management to deal with the fallout.
