Unemployment figures for Longford lowest in a decade

The unemployment figures for Longford are the lowest they’ve been in a decade.

CSO figures show a total of 2,572 people on the Live Register in August this year, which is a total decrease of 3,075 since 2009.

The biggest decrease in figures occurred between 2016 and 2017, which saw a drop of 743 from 4,019 unemployed people to 3,276.

Meanwhile, the number of people unemployed in Shannonside counties decreased across the board this August.

CSO figures show a total of 2,200 people on the Live Register in Co. Roscommon, which is 39 fewer than July this year.

This consists of a twenty four person drop in Boyle, and a decrease of five and ten respectively in Castlerea and Roscommon Town social protection offices.

Co. Leitrim has a current register of 1,787, which is 60 fewer than in July. Manorhamilton figures dropped from 432 in July to 422 in August, and the figures for Carrick-On-Shannon decreased from 1,415 to 1,365 in the same period.

Athlone has seen unemployment figures decrease by 401 since August last year, and Mullingar has 376 fewer unemployed people as well.
