Thousands expected in Longford for FF selection convention

Thousands of people will be visiting Longford town today as they make their way to vote in the Fianna Fail selection convention for the Midlands North West constituency.

The constituency is made up of 15 counties taking in Connacht, Ulster and north Leinster and it was decided in recent weeks that Longford would be a good central location for the large region.

A total of nine candidates will contest the event which is being held in the Longford Arms Hotel and their hundreds of supporters will travel long distances to cast their vote anytime between 1 o’ clock this afternoon and half past nine tonight.


A total of nine candidates have thrown their hat in the ring for convention including Cavan/Monaghan Deputy Brendan Smith, Galway East TD Anne Rabbitte, as well as former Donegal Deputy Niall Blayney.

Mayo TD and party spokesperson on Brexit Lisa Chambers will chair tonight’s event and says they’re expecting a large turnout of delegates.
