Syrian refugees to arrive in Longford by March

Longford County Council is expecting to provide accommodation for Syrian refugees in the opening quarter of this year.

It was confirmed last August that up to ten Syrian families would be moving to Ireland as part of the government’s wider programme of resettling families who had to flee the country as a result of the ongoing civil war.

The local authority is currently in the process of providing appropriate services for the families and it’s hoped that the first of the settlers will be accommodated in the opening months of 2018.

Director of services with Longford County Council is John Brannigan.
