A ‘Smart Green Mohill’ will be launched on Friday with the Economic Development Plan

Plans to bring a vision for a Smart Green Mohill to life will be unveiled this Friday.

Minister for Rural & Community Development, Mr. Michael Ring TD will be in the town on Friday to officially launch its Economic Development Plan which has been developed by town team, with the support of Leitrim County Council.

The Economic & Development Plan is the culmination of a lengthy consultative process with the community and involved numerous workshops and planning meetings.


The outcome of the process is a vision for the town built on the brand of SMART GREEN Mohill.

Initiatives already rolled out include the installation of energy efficient event lighting, the development of a heritage trail, installation of street banners and new signage, and enhancement of the streetscape through a painting scheme for businesses and residential houses in the town.

Future plans include the development of Smart Workspace at Mohill Enterprise Centre and a Feasibility Study to evaluate the potential for a number of vacant properties to become hostel type accommodation which will compliment the Lough Rynn Rowing facility and ensure visitors stay in the town.

Other actions include completion of the walkway on the Dromod Road, creating a looped walk for the town, developing the public realm space with pedestrian and cycle linkages, developing a Mohill Hub and the former Mohill Vocational School site

The Plan is also supplemented by a comprehensive Energy Master Plan and a Renewable Feasibility Study Many buildings have already had an energy audit.

John Mannion is Manager of the Enterprise Centre – he outlines the key projects they will be hoping to get the Minister’s and his Department to support.

Chairperson of the Town Team Gerry Kilraine says it’s a plan for a positive future.

Mohill Economic Development Plan will be launched at the Canon Donohoe Hall on Friday the 28th June at 1.00pm.
