Increased garda presence leads to decrease in shoplifting levels in Longford town

Gardai say they have achieved considerable success in reducing the levels of shoplifting in Longford town.

Officers have worked with the Chamber of Commerce and the County Council to revamp the business text alert system, which has helped in increase awareness of incidents as they happen.

Superintendent Jim Delaney says they have also made special efforts to step up garda presence in shopping districts in the town.

He says it’s all part of providing a safe environment for shoppers, particularly older people.
