A high-speed train between Dublin and Sligo would mean Longford commuters facing only a 40 to 50 minute trip to the capital.

That’s according to Longford Fine Gael Councillor Paul Ross who is making the proposal in the aftermath of the Draft National Planning Framework published in recent weeks.

Councillor Ross says that given the long term nature of the plan, which is looking at development of the country until 2040, he feels it’s not unreasonable to suggest major investment in a high speed network.

The Fine Gael councillor told Shannonside FM News that Ireland could well take a leaf from similar infrastructural development in the UK and further afield.
