Plea for Garda Commissioner and Justice Minister to act to prevent further feud violence in Longford

The head of Longford’s Joint Policing Committee believes the Minister for Justice needs to act to prevent further incidents of violence in the town.

A man in his 40s suffered a leg injury in a suspected hit and run incident in a car park in the town yesterday which involved more than one vehicle.

A man in his 20s suffered a head wound and a teenage girl was also injured in what Gardai believe is an incident linked to an ongoing feud in the town.

Yesterday’s incident was the third such outbreak of violence in the town in the last month – following on from an alleged stabbing at the Aldi carpark on April 1st and a public order incident at the same location on April 15th

Councillor Gerry Warnock claims anti-social behaviour and issues with a minority of travellers of are the two biggest issues voters are raising with him while canvassing ahead of this month’s Local Elections.

He claims the only way to resolve the issues is to flood the town with more Gardai – and is demanding action from the Justice Minister and the Garda Commissioner :
