Peter McVerry Trust to provide Longford homes for at least five rough sleepers in coming years

A spokesperson for the Peter McVerry Trust has said they hope to provide homes for a minimum of five homeless people in Longford over the next five years.

A Housing First Contract was signed in the last number of days between Westmeath County Council and the Peter McVerry Trust to deliver the service across the four midland counties in Longford, Westmeath, Laois and Offaly.

The Housing First model works on the principle that an individual is provided with housing before being expected to resolve the issues that have contributed to them being homeless in the first place.

Francis Doherty who’s Deputy Director of communications with the McVerry Trust says they’ll be working closely with the local councils who will identify suitable housing, and they’ll then provide a network of support for the person to ensure they get the necessary help to stay in their new home….
