Over 50% increase in local drink drive detections this December

There’s been a 55% increase in the number of people detected for drink drinking in the Roscommon Longford garda division during December this year, compared to last.

Drivers are also being warned that many people are being detected for drink driving in the mid-morning during the weekends.

This timing appears to indicate that drivers aren’t giving themselves enough time to recover before driving home after having been out the night before.

Sgt Aidan O’ Brien from the Roscommon/Longford garda division says there are more and more checkpoints being mounted on the roads, and people are getting caught:
