A planned two-day oral hearing into a proposal for a controversial windfarm development is South Longford is due to get underway this morning.
Bord na Mona have lodged an application to develop 24 turbines with a tip height of 185 metres on bogs at Derryadd, Derryaroge and Lough Bannow. Almost 20 observers are set to make submission on the plans this morning, including a local opposition group as well as the local primary school. The hearing gets underway at 10am this morning, with a second day scheduled on Thursday to allow questions for all parties.
A decision on the planning application is expected to be delivered by the end of next month. Niall Dennigan, of the ‘No to Derryadd Windfarm’ group is one of the observers who will be addressing the planning inspector today.
He says a huge amount of evidence against the proposal is going to be presented at the oral hearing.
