A new cycle and walkway linking 12 estates in Edgeworthstown to the local school is being given a funding boost of €10,000 euro from Longford councils Special Projects funds.
Members of Ballymahon Municipal District gave the go-ahead for the money at their monthy meeting this week to allow work be finished on the old trackway from Devine Crescent across to the local school.
Work began on the project last year and Councillor Paul Ross who proposed the allocation of €10,000 says the costs had doubled since it first began.
He said the first plan was a clean-up of the track but it have then been decided to put lighting and other improvements alongside it to make it as safe as possible.
The trackway will not only link the housing areas to the school but also to the community centre and graveyard, and it can also link to the local heritage trail in the town.
Councillor Paul Ross says the revamped trackway will benefit a lot of people.
