The number of patients on trolleys at Mullingar Hospital has dropped dramatically today to 6 according to the INMO.
Yesterday the figure reached 27 forcing management there to issue a statement saying the Emergency Department was very busy and the hospital had no capacity.
The hospital appealed to people to think about other treatment options as it struggled to cope.
Elsewhere in the Shannonside region there are 37 people on trolleys in University College Hospital Galway, the fourth highest number in the country.
The largest number is being recorded at University Hospital Limerick where there are 60 people waiting for a bed with 503 on trolleys nationwide.
