No emergency accommodation in Shannonside region for domestic violence victims in 2018

Ten counties had no emergency accommodation for victims of domestic violence last year – including all three in the Shannonside region.

The Times Ireland edition says many women and children are fleeing abusive situations – only to be told there’s no space for them at refuges in Longford, Leitrim or Roscommon.

It also claims the government is still counting beds from a Dublin refuge that was closed in 2017 in its statistics for emergency spaces.
