Newly elected Cathaoirleach of Longford County Council expresses pride at taking over role

The newly elected Cathaoirleach of Longford County Council has expressed his pride at taking over the role.

Lanesboro native Gerard Farrell officially assumed the chair role this week of the local authority – as he took the position left vacant as a result of Micheal Carrigy’ election to the Seanad in April.

The local representative becomes the third member of his family to assume the Cathaoirleach role – after his father and grandfather also both led the Council at different stages in the last fifty years.
