New initiative to be launched to tackle Midlands litter blackspots

A new initiative will be launched next Thursday to encourage local communities to tackle litter blackspots in their area.

The “Back to Beauty” project involves Longford, Westmeath and Laois country councils.

The campaign will allow people to ask for funding and mechanical equipment to help clear particular problem areas that they would like to tackle.

It also gives an extension to the National Spring Clean campaign which runs for the month of April.

Groups can apply in writing to the Environment Department of the county council.

Photos of the black spot, a description of the works needed, and the estimated cost should form part of the applications.
