Just over 2,600 (2,602) people attended marriage preparation courses run by Accord in its central region which includes Longford, Leitrim and Roscommon last year.
It’s slightly down on figures for 2017 when almost 2,760 (2,758) people attended the nine hour course on spiritual and practical aspects of married life.
The catholic agency also provided just over 2,530 (2,536) counselling sessions to married couples through its centres in Longford, Athlone, Ballinasloe, Mullingar, Navan, Sligo, Tullamore and Charlestown in 2018.
That’s down on the under 2,920 (2,924) sessions in 2017.
Ann Coleman, Marriage Preparation Specialist with Accord says it’s good that the numbers wishing to get married in the catholic church has remained steady, over the last few years.
