March the wettest month the Shannonside region has seen in three years

Last month was the wettest March the Shannonside region has experienced in three years according to data from Met Eireann.

According to its monthly report, two-and-a-half-times more rain fell in March this year compared to the same month in 2018 and three times as much rain fell in March compared to January and February.

Over 158 millimetres of rain was recorded at the Mount Dillon weather station in March, up from 62.9mm 12 months ago.


Last month was also much warmer than the records for 2018, with an average temperature of 8.1 degrees recorded at the weather station on the Roscommon-Longford border – compared to 5.7 for last year.
