The poor performance of Longford town in the latest IBAL Litter League results is down to an overall degeneration of areas around the town rather than any one site.
Conor Horgan from IBAL says several areas around the town were deemed to be “moderately littered” in their most recent report carried out by An Taisce.
Longford has slipped several places from number 11 in the January rankings to 28th on today’s listing.
Conor Horgan says there were too many areas found to have a litter problem for the town to be able to retain its “cleaner than European norms” title.
The town of Athlone is the success story of the Shannonside region in today’s IBAL report coming in as the second cleanest of all the towns surveyed around the country.
Conor Horgan says their achievement is remarkable given their past performances which saw them stay at mid ranking for many years.
