A 22-year-old man has pleaded guilty to possession of a taser, in the shape of a knuckleduster, in Longford last year.
The young man appeared at a recent sitting of Longford District court following an incident in March last year.
The court heard the accused's car was stopped on Park Road and a search of the vehicle subsequently revealed an object in the driver's door pocket that was a taser.
The accused told the court that he had bought the item on the Chinese website 'Wish' for €13 and purchased the item - which was described as being able to administer a shock and incapacitate someone for a number of minutes - out of curiosity.
His defence solicitor described the purchase as a stupid senseless act, and he was handed a three-month sentence, suspended for three years, after entering into a section 99 bond to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.
