Lovett case still has relevance today – O’Reilly

The issues surrounding the death of Ann Lovett in county Longford over 34 years ago are still relevant today.

Emily O’Reilly was one of the first journalists who covered the tragedy of the young mother and her son who died after childbirth in Granard in January 1984.

Ms O’Reilly says despite the secrecy locally around events at that time, and two investigations, which Irish Times journalist Rosita Boland has tried to recover, the State had an obligation to find out what happened.

She says she has thought of the case many times and has reflected on the personal story for Ann the whole family.

She says though, the issues it brings up are still very relevant today.
