Longford Women’s Link welcomes first conviction for coercive control

Men and women experiencing abuse through control in their relationships are being encouraged to take cases to the courts.

The jailing of the first person in Ireland to be convicted of coercive control has been welcomed by Women’s Aid.

The legislation became active last year and can include a combination of any form of domestic abuse.


A man was jailed in Donegal yesterday after he pleaded guilty to a number of charges, including making nearly 6-thousand phone calls to his partner in a three month period.
