A Longford woman is thanking the community for all their support in the campaign to have her son accepted into a specialised residential centre for people with Huntington's Disease.

Fifty year old Joe Doran was approved for funding to take up his place at Bloomfield House in county Dublin at the end of last month and has been there for a just a week now.

His mother Pauline has campaigned relentlessly for the last five years for the HSE to approve funding for his place, with thousands of people in Longford and beyond signing petitions and raising awareness of his situation.

Joe had been very well cared for in Our Lady's Manor in Edgeworthstown since Christmas after suffering a serious fall but his family maintained that he needed to receive specialised supports for his disease and enjoy a quality of life with people closer to his age.

Speaking on Let's Talk today, Pauline says she could hardly believe the good news when she got the call.
