Longford Tidy Towns calls for more enforcement of anti-dumping legislation

Longford Tidy Towns says the only way to stamp out illegal dumping is to invest in enforcement of anti dumping legislation.

The town was penalised in today’s Irish Business Against Litter survey for dumping at a derelict site at Chapel lane.

It came in 28th out of 40 in the latest survey – with IBAL maintaining that several areas around the town were moderately littered.

While it is still Clean to European Norms, Athlone in 2nd place and Roscommon in 8th position are Cleaner than European Norms.

John Farrell is Chairperson of Longford Tidy Towns.

Judging the National Tidy Towns Compeition is underway with judges set to visit every town between now and September.

John Farrell says they are working hard on all approaches to the town at the moment.

He’s appealing to everyone to play their part and clean up just outside their houses or shops.
