Longford TD accepts Garda Commissioner hampered in her job

A local TD has acknowledged that the enquiries and committees which Noirin O’Sullivan had to attend did undermine her ability to do her job.

Fine Gael TD Peter Burke said it was now up to the Policing Authority to appoint a new Garda Commissioner and restore confidence in the force.

Deputy Burke is a member of the Public Accounts Committee which grilled Ms O’Sullivan on several occasions on various controversies engulfing the force.

He paid tribute to the commissioner for her 36 years service but said it was time now to allow the Policing Authority go about its’ job and recruit a new commissioner.
