Longford taxi driver says the sector has been left in limbo

A Longford taxi service has said they’ve been “left in limbo” by the government.

Johnny Nevin of Nevin’s Taxis made the comments to Shannonside FM in the wake of social distancing restrictions put in place due to the coronavirus outbreak.

According to Mr Nevin, the government has given no directive to public service vehicles with the Taxi Regulator recommending simple measures such as hand-washing.

The family-run service has implemented a ban on sitting in the front seat, and are still completing short runs for dependent customers such as the elderly and those who can’t drive, as well as trips to Dublin for dialysis patients.

Although he agrees it’s not ideal to be in close contact with immuno-compromised people, Johnny Nevin says the HSE has enough on its plate.
