Longford priest says people could consider simplicity of late Pope’s funeral

A Longford priest has said people should maybe consider the funeral of Pope John Paul-the-second, when they are planning the funerals of a loved one.

Fr Joe Mc Grath from the parish of Drumlish and Ballinamuck was commenting on reports last week that a priest in Cork had expressed disappointment about items like cigarettes and beer being brought to the altar as offertory gifts during funeral masses.

Speaking on the Joe Finnegan show this morning, Fr McGrath said while many people have different ideas of how special they should try to make a funeral, it is also interesting to look at the simplicity of the funeral ceremony chosen by the late Pope John Paul-the-second.
