Longford postmaster gives cautious welcome as An Post wins €100m social welfare contract

The Chairman of the Irish Postmasters Union in Longford is giving a cautious welcome to the news today that the contract for cash payment of Social Welfare has been retained by An Post.

It means that cash pay-out of social protection payments will continue to be available over the counter at Post Offices for the next two years at least.

After the two year contract period is complete, the department has the option to review the contract on an annual basis for a further four years.
