A man in his 30s remains in Garda custody in connection with dozens of alleged thefts in several counties in the Shannonside region.
The man, who is from the Longford area but not living in the county, was arrested last Thursday in connection with an alleged theft from St Mel’s cathedral.
Gardai believe the man is also linked to a number of other thefts and break-ins in Leitrim and Roscommon as well as Westmeath, Offaly and Kildare in the last number of months.
Shannonside FM understands that gardaí are also looking to speak to a woman who they may believe could have been an accomplice of the man currently in custody and that the man and woman were working together in a number of alleged thefts from shops and homes.
The man remains in custody in Longford Garda Station under the Provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
