Longford man receives bravery award after helping woman during robbery incident

A young Longford man has been praised for his bravery after intervening in a robbery incident involving a woman in the town last year.

Denis Mc Grath was given a special commendation at yesterday’s meeting of the Longford Joint Policing Committee.

Longford Garda Superintendent Jim Delaney said having watched the CCTV of the incident there could only be speculation on what might have been inflicted on the woman if Denis McGrath had not intervened.

The Superintendent also said that the young man’s actions were equally as brave as what had been witnessed last week on London Bridge, and not everyone would have done the same.

Two people have already admitted their involvement in the incident and are due to be sentenced in January.
