Longford Local Election candidate claims waste charge and recycling major concern to voters

A Longford local election candidate claims the issue of waste disposal and the costs of trying to dispose of waste properly is a major issue for voters ahead of next month’s Local Elections.

People before Profit candidate Barbara Smyth is her party’s environment spokesperson and is contesting for a seat in the Longford Municipal District on May 24th.

She believes a decision by Longford based Mulleady’s Waste Company to impose a service charge of 92 cent per week is causing huge frustration and is unfair to people who do their best to reduce their own waste.


The company informed customers in February that the charge was being introduced and claimed that it had no choice as rising costs of labour, insurance and European regulations meant the charge needed to be imposed.
