Longford litter warden issues warning after rise in fly tipping

Litter wardens across the Shannonside Northern Sound region are continuing to enforce the law in respect of illegal dumping.

There’s concern over a rise in fly tipping since physical distancing restrictions have been introduced.

While normal refuse collection services are continuing in the main, collections at some bottle banks have been delayed and people are being urged to bring bottles home for the time being or find another local bank that may have more capacity.

Environment Officer at Longford County Council Gary Brady says CCTV cameras are in operation at some sites and action will be taken against those who leave bottles or rubbish at those sites.
