The Chairman of the Longford Joint Policing Committee has welcomed the new garda division reshuffle.
Fianna Fáil Councillor Seamus Butler has said that while he has “total faith” in the plans it’s vital that more resources are brought to Longford to allow daily Garda foot patrols in the town.
The reshuffle has faced some backlash since it was announced yesterday with local Garda and GRA representative Dave Conroy critical of the Garda Commissioner’s plans.
Gardai from Roscommon/Longford will now be joined by colleagues from Mayo in a new extended division, and members of the force working in Sligo-Leitrim will co-operate with colleagues from Donegal in an expanded north western garda presence.
Commissioner Drew Harris is expected to make regional visits to explain the plans at JPC meetings.
