The Longford chair of the IFA is warning local farmers about the risk of attack by cows who have just calved.
Gavin White’s warning comes after a Co. Westmeath farmer received significant injuries from an angry suckler cow during a herd test on Friday.
ICSA Treasurer Dan Lynam was on the farm at the time of the incident, and was able to fence off the cow and administer first aid until the ambulance arrived.
According to him, the cow – who had calved two days prior – chased the farmer for thirty metres before hitting him from behind and knocking him to the ground.
