Longford Greyhound Track is set to re-open this Wednesday after getting the go-ahead from the fire officer.
Works to bring the stadium up to date with the necessary fire safety standards were carried out in recent weeks after an announcement was made in early August that the track would have to close.
Dog owners, trainers and supporters raised over €30,000 over the past several weeks and that was used to carry out the necessary works.
The long term future of the stadium still isn’t certain however until the Indecon report is published.
That report was commissioned by Bord na gCon earlier this year to assess the infrastructure, services available and standards of facilities at all of its 16 licensed venues around the country including Longford.
It will examine the future sustainability of each individual track, looking at population catchments and access arrangements.
In the meantime however, Longford says it’s delighted to announce the reopening this Wednesday when a 12 race card will take place beginning at 8 o’ clock.
