Longford engineer says unsuitable objects and liquids in waste water can pose major treatment issues

People in the Shannonside region are being asked to be conscious of the items they may be adding to treatment plants across the region from their toilets and sinks.

There are 28 waste water treatment plants in Roscommon, while there are 18 in Longford dealing with thousands of litres of water each day. Householders and businesses are being advised to think before you flush and not to think of their toilets or sinks as a bin in order to minimise issues at plants dealing with foreign objects in the sensitive systems processing water each day

Donal Heaney, Wastewater Engineer with Irish Water in Longford told Let’s Talk that objects not suitable for the waste water network can cause huge issues when they enter the system.
