One of the country's leading economists believes the Covid-19 pandemic could provide a unique long term opportunity for the Shannonside Northern Sound region.

One of the country's leading economists believes the Covid-19 pandemic could provide a unique long term opportunity for the Shannonside Northern Sound region.

Business representative group IBEC has recently published its quarter two economic forecast that predicts a significant recession for the global economy which may last well into next year.

Longford native Gerard Brady is the chief economist at the organisation, and feel that with people working at home more now there will be shift away from long term commutes as well as a greater focus on quality of life.

He claims that several companies will look to allow workers work from home in specially developed hubs - and towns in this region could benefit if the government invests in better broadband technology
