Longford County Council to hear from possible Presidential candidates next week

Longford County Council has confirmed that it will host possible Presidential candidates at a special meeting next week.

The local authority will be the last in the Shannonside region to hear from Presidential hopefuls after Leitrim and Roscommon County Councils both agreed this week to support the nomination of Sean Gallagher.

Joan Freeman and Gavin Duffy also secured local authority backing this week, which means there will be a minimum of five candidates for the October 26th election, including incumbent Michael D Higgins and an as-of-yet unnamed Sinn Fein candidate.

The special meeting is being held next Tuesday at 11am with the Council needing to nominate any possible candidates before the September 26th deadline.
