Longford councillors seek compromise on rent review process

Councillors in Longford are hoping to discuss the current council rent review at a special meeting in April. There’s been outcry from residents who are facing a maximum increase of 50 euro per week, and from those on fixed incomes such as pensioners.

There hasn’t been a review in 10 years in the county, and a new differential scheme is based on a standard calculation for all residents.
The new differential scheme is now based on 22.5 percent of the households eligible income, less 50 euro. Councillor Gerry Warnock has asked for the executive to consider a review of the scheme with a maximum increase of just 25 euro.

He says there’s scope for compromise.
