Longford councillor Joe Flaherty says he believes the county could gain from a decision of Westmeath County Council to deny permission for a whiskey storage facility at Moyvore.
The €138 million euro project involves plans to build a major whiskey maturation facility in the first phase and the development of a museum and interpretative centre in the second.
The promoters say the project would create up to 80 jobs in the construction, and 25 jobs when phase one is finished.
While the plans have been turned down by Westmeath County Council, Councillor Flaherty says he feels the project would be a perfect fit for Co Longford.
The developers have already looked at Edgeworthstown as a possible location in the past number of months and while there are some zoning issues related to land there, Councillor Flaherty says he believes they would not be insurmountable.
Speaking on Lets Talk today, Joe Flaherty says it’s a major opportunity for Longford….
