Longford Councillor calls for special Revenue group to be established to tackle local criminality

A Longford Councillor has called for the development of a special task force to tackle an increase in violence between feuding traveller families in the town.

Joe Flaherty claims that all new County Councillors will support any extra measures required by Gardai to deal with a series of incidents which have occurred in the town and surrounds in the last number of weeks.

The latest incident took place last night after shots were fired at a house in the Clonbalt woods housing estate at around 11pm.

No one was injured in the incident and the residents of the house have been described as well liked and well respected in the community with no links to criminality.
