Longford councillor is calling for legislation dealing with litter and dumping to be changed

Longford Fine Gael councillor Padraig Brady is calling for legislation dealing with litter and dumping issues to be fundamentally changed.

Councillor Brady says that even with councils becoming more pro-active and spending a lot of money to prosecute people for dumping, the majority of the offenders get off with no real penalty.

He says many of the people take the option of doing time in prison instead of a fine because they know very well that they’re likely to be “turned around” and be free to go on the same day.
