Longford council seat still vacant after co-option halted

A seat on Longford county council remains vacant today after plans to co-opt a Fianna Fail replacement for Joe Flaherty went badly awry yesterday.

While former councillor Michael Connellan had been chosen to fill the seat it emerged yesterday that there may be issues surrounding his eligibility to hold public office while being employed at the child and family agency Tusla at the same time.

The meeting was adjourned without any resolution yesterday and the seat remains vacant presently.

PRO of Longford Fianna Fail Comhairle Dail Ceanntair Niall Dowler says the party wants to see this issue resolved as soon as possible.
