The offices of Longford County Council are closed until two o’ clock this afternoon as a mark of respect to the late Michael Cooney who was a long time employee of the authority.
Mr. Cooney died in a tragic accident near Ballymahon last Saturday and his funeral is taking place in Ballymahon today.
Meanwhile, tribute is also being paid to the late David Sheridan who also died in a tragic accident last Saturday.
Mr Sheridan who was a keen fisherman was on the river Inny at Multyfarnham in Westmeath last weekend when the accident happened.
He was originally from Farnagh in Longford town but had been living in Dublin at the time of his death.
