Community Enterprise schemes should receive an increase in funding, that’s according to all eighteen councillors of Longford County Council.
In a recent meeting, it was agreed that the council will call on the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection to restore the “Tools and Materials Budget” for CE schemes.
At present, each CE scheme receives €12 per participant after it was reduced from €20 a number of years ago. This reduction in funding has led to many CE Schemes having to fundraise to keep local schemes going.
A recent report showed that Longford has a higher dividend than any other county, meaning each euro invested in the county’s CE schemes leads to a spin off of €4.30
